Banking & Changing Money

You should exchange your money to JPY at international airports such as Narita, Haneda, and Kansai airport. That is the most convenient way to exchange foreign currency.

All banks operating in Japan offer foreign currency exchange services, although the currencies exchanged are limited to US$ and Euro and the process is very time consuming. Opening hours are from 9 am to 3 pm on weekdays.  Matsue Central Post Office near Matsue Excell Hotel Tokyu is also available.  Hotels, large shops, and large restaurants accept major credit cards such as VISA, Master and JCB.  Only payment in cash (JPY) is acceptable in most Japanese-style pubs (called “Izakaya” in Japanese).
